About me

Ken McCoy photoI grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. A theatrical actor and director since 1978, I earned degrees in Theatre from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (BA 1982), Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (MFA 1984), and Bowling Green State University (PhD 1994). In 1984, I began my self-taught and exhaustive adventure into photography, including at first old-school darkroom printing and eventually digital photography and post-processing. In 1994 I joined the Theatre Arts faculty at Stetson University in central Florida to teach courses in acting, directing, voice, and more. To date, I have directed over 50 productions for the stage and acted nearly as many roles for stage, film, and television – including some independent films, and the occasional feature film that shoots in central Florida. With research interests in Latin American and Native American Theatre, I speak Spanish, and am an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. I am a dog person, but I like the cats too.

I am often available for summer projects in theatre, film, and/or photography.
